We are finally live!!!

Hi everyone!
It's been a really long time since my last post, but after a few technical difficulties we are finally live! Check out our newest no-fee listings online.
Since I started telling people about Rent Me NYC, I've been getting a lot of questions. The main one I've been asked is"Why would anyone use your website? We can find an apartment on Craigslist without you. " And my response is "Shut up." No, just kidding! That's actually an excellent question. Of course you can find apartments on Craigslist. As a matter of fact, I found my first apartment on Craigslist. It was in Astoria, newly renovated, hardwood floors, good price, yadda yadda yadda. And the landlord seemed so nice! My roommates and I patted each other on the back, saying what a great deal.
Within weeks we realized that our apartment wasn't so wonderful. We had mice. And roaches. And the floor and wall in two of the bedrooms was rotting away because of mold. Or there was mold growing because of rotting wood. We never figured that out because when we told the landlord about our problem she just shrugged and told us to use lysol. (Lysol doesn't kill mold, by the way).
That's not all. When they turned on the heat in October the pipes would start clanking every half hour starting at 5am. I'm not talking about a little hissing or tapping. It was like there was a brass symphony going off, but the instruments were pots and pans. And it happened every single day. Including weekends when you're hung over and want to sleep in a bit!
As unpleasant as my experience was, we were quite lucky. I have heard stories of people who have gone to an apartment, signed a lease, forked over money, and were given fake keys. THAT sucks.
So, of course you can find an apartment on Craigslist without us. But you have no way of knowing that you are answering a legitimate ad. With Rent Me NYC, you will be looking at REAL listings. And you will be speaking to real estate brokers, who can give you advice in addition to information. You will receive daily e-mails with updated apartments. This is a service that Craigslist does not provide.

I'll be updating the blog a bit more frequently in the future. If you have any more questions, leave them here, or e-mail me at zach@rentmenyc.com. And again, check out our No-fee website
Best of luck!!! :-)

Brand-new no-fee website set to launch!

Welcome to Rent Me NYC’s blog! My name is Zach and I am the Creative Advisor. As a Native New Yorker who has struggled to find a nice, affordable apartment, I have my share of Craigslist horror stories. Because of this I am very excited to be a part of the launch of Rent Me NYC, the largest AIV website run by licensed real estate professionals. Who isn’t looking for no-fee apartment listings, right? Most people I know either find their apartments on Craigslist or they use a real estate broker. I’ll admit that Craigslist CAN have some awesome deals. It can also have a lot of scams, which even the savviest New Yorker can fall prey to. One of the most common are landlords who hold an open house, ask everyone for a $50 credit check fee on the spot, and then pocket that money with no intention of renting the apartment. The worst part of being scammed on Cragislist is there’s no one you can turn to for help.

Rent Me NYC offers no-fee listings that have been thoroughly pre-screened. You will be dealing with management companies and landlords who we have worked with for years. If you have a question or a problem, give us a call. We’re here to help you find the apartment of your dreams at a price you can afford. We will not leave you out in the cold.

We are only 4 days away from launching Rent Me NYC. But I just can’t resist giving you a sneak preview of what we have to offer. I’ve attached some pictures below.

As we get closer I promise to give you more updates, no matter how busy we get! In the meantime, follow us on Twitter, for more regular updates, or become our fan on Facebook.

If you have any questions, leave a comment here or shoot me an e-mail at zach@rentmenyc.com.

I look forward to providing you with TONS of no-fee listings. Until then, Happy apartment hunting!

-Zach
